Programme Levels
The GEMS International curriculum offers two programme levels. Together, they provide engaging lessons and accompanying materials for girls between the ages of 5-18.
Awareness
The Awareness Level is best for girls between 5-10, and up to 12 (depending on their reading ability). The curriculum is based on stories from the Bible and includes colouring pages for girls.
At the Awareness level, a counsellor (leader) tells a Bible story using prompts found in the Counsellor Helps. Counsellors also use the Story Banner as a visual tool. Girls answer questions, memorize a Bible verse, colour a picture about the story, and play games.
Advanced
The Advanced Level is best for girls between 10-16, and up to 18 (depending on their reading ability and maturity level). The curriculum looks at how Scripture applies to everyday life. Girls also learn practical life skills like sewing, cooking, gardening, and money management.
Every lesson in the Advanced Level includes three different sections: Head, Heart, and Hand. Girls start with a Bible study and gain head knowledge as they discover more about God and who they are in Him. Next, counsellors discuss questions with girls to make sure they understand the information and are able to apply what they it to their lives. Girls memorize the main verse so they can hide God's Word in their hearts (Psalm 119:11). Finally, girls learn a practical life skill. Often, these are fundamental skills that benefit girls, allow them to bless others, and often involve tangible, hands-on activities.
Changing Levels
A girl may move from the Awareness Level to the Advanced Level when her counsellor and the Club Coordinator (woman who organizes the club) decides she is ready. This movement from one programme level to the next should take place at the beginning of the club year.
