New Club in Cape Town

Seaview Baptist Church in Cape Town, South Africa is the newest club to join GEMS Girls' Clubs International.  “The GEMS on my side are all good and well and I am having the time of my life in this ministry,” reports Laura, the Club Coordinator.

Laura is excited about GEMS and what it will mean for the girls in her club. “These girls come from very poor homes,” she explains, “But, hey! We serve a faithful God who has come through for me and my family, and I know He is going do great things for this club as well!’

Seaview Baptist is a small church and Laura is doing various fundraising activities with her girls to sustain the club. She would appreciate prayers for the beginning of their season, for sufficient funding, and for girls hearts to be open to hearing God’s Word!

New Clubs in Nepal

A year ago, the GEMS International Service Centre received a request from a growing church in Kathmandu, Nepal,to bring our new International Curriculum and set up GEMS Clubs in the country. The church leaders in contact with our ministry asked if we could conduct a training programme for those interested in becoming counsellors from their church and from surrounding churches outside the city.

For the GEMS staff, this was an exciting invitation, one that was uplifting as we were still in the process of working on our International curriculum. We strongly felt it was in His will for us to start our new curriculum in Nepal, the first place in Asia that would have GEMS Clubs.

Preparations soon began for the trip. By January 2011, the new curriculum and training schedule and materials were in the final stages of completion. By mid February, a GEMS staff member and a board member flew out to Kathmandu, ready to meet with the believers in Nepal and begin a three-day training programme held at the church in the country’s capital.

The GEMS training staff had a warm welcome in Nepal and enjoyed the hospitality of the church leaders, and women who had come for training. Each day, about 15 women attended the three hour sessions. The counsellors to-be had different backgrounds; some were from cities, others from villages, and many were recent converts. But these women were united in their great passion for God, and for ministering His Word to children and the youth in their churches and communities.

The training was well-received and the counsellors were attentive and interactive. Initially, there was more interest in teaching the Advanced programme level. As the training came to a close however, many counsellors were keen to introduce the Awareness level for younger girls in their churches and clubs as well. A decision was made to begin three GEMS Clubs and coordinate the work done in them by setting up a regional GEMS centre in Nepal.

The training brought energy to the GEMS ministry and staff and was an encouraging and inspiring time for the women of God who attended. We thank God for all the blessings on our trip there and for the work that is being done for Him in Nepal.

Please pray for the clubs in Nepal, for counsellors and the girls in club. Pray for the continued outreach efforts in a region and among youth and people who are often not accepting of any ministry work.
