Club Leadership
A club requires the leadership of a few women of faith who have a desire to see girls grow in their knowledge of Christ. These women are willing to develop a loving, nurturing relationship with each girl.
Here are the leadership positions within a club:
Club Coordinator
The Club Coordinator is the team leader She oversees club, organizes the schedule for meetings, keeps accurate records, and makes sure the necessary materials for club are distributed. The Coordinator recruits counsellors and encourages them—she is the counsellor’s counsellor.
To learn more about her role in club, take a look at the Club Coordinator’s job description.
Depending on the needs of a specific club, it may be necessary to have an Assistant Club Coordinator. It is her duty to lead club when the Club Coordinator is gone, assist with distributing materials, and to help with record keeping.
The Club Coordinator and the Assistant Club Coordinator work together, encouraging one another and being accountable to one another for the wise and Christ-honouring use of time and resources.
Counsellor
Counsellors are the women who work directly with the girls in small groups. Ideally, one counsellor works with 6-8 girls from either the Awareness or Advanced programme level. She leads them in Bible study, discussion, and activities. Counsellors are mentors, teachers, and friends to girls. Counsellors speak into the lives of girls and have the opportunity to bond with them in a deep and lasting way.
For a better understanding of the counsellor’s role, read the Counsellor’s job description.
CITs
Counsellors-in-Training (CITs) are girls, ages 16-19 (14 or 15, if, very mature) who have completed at least two years in the Advanced Level of GEMS International. They are spiritually mature, have faithfully participated in club, and show leadership skills—they are the ideal role models to younger girls in club. CITs are young women with a heart to serve and are comfortable leading praise and worship, a Bible study, or other club-related activities.
